New Window Styles and Design Trends for 2017 in Indianapolis

January 11, 2017

This time of year is a great time to shake up your home design and window treatments with the new styles of 2017. Whether it’s painting your family room, buying new window coverings or swapping out accessories, we have tips on what’s in vogue this year for interior design and window treatment trends in Indianapolis.

Duskier Colors & Pastels

Both pastels and duskier colors are growing in popularity while clear, bright colors are seeing less use. Shades of cooler colors like blues and grays are especially popular in addition to dusty hues of pink, blue, and yellow. Many hues on the palette are evocative of nature from deep blue to Pantone’s color of the year, “Greenery.”. Neutral colors are still found throughout the color spectrum with whites, grays and darker browns balancing out the other tones.

The simplest thing you can do to add a spark to the color in your house might be to paint some of your walls a neutral shade and add in flashes of colors through feature walls, accessories, and small furnishings. Then it’s a breeze to highlight the latest colors in your interior design today and swap the accessories out when color schemes vary in the future. When considering new window treatments, go with those in neutral colors such as Polywood® plantation shutters in white or a natural wood color stain. These will match any style or color scheme and won’t need to be changed when you switch room colors in the future.

Natural Textures

Natural textures aren’t going anywhere in 2017. Fibers trending up include weaved material in rugs or baskets, knotted wood, and twine. We’re seeing these textures popping up in new places like on furniture, headboards, and pieces of art. Think of how you can incorporate what you already own and add texture to it such as wrapping a frame in twine or creating artwork from old wood.

Adding textures to your home through window treatments add another level of style to your décor. Reclaimed wood shutters are built using old, weathered wood that was once part of fences or buildings. The wood has unique knots and grain lines that bring an organic quality to any home. Other window coverings that add texture include Ovation® wood shutters or shades made of natural woven material.

Metals

Home designs that incorporate different metals are popping up across Indianapolis. Nickel, wrought iron, and gold are especially stylish in 2017. You can add metals to your décor by adding industrial, rustic, or retro pieces such as stools, benches, or light fixtures that are built from metals. Also, don’t be afraid to use nickel or brass in your sinks or hardware for a more modern look.

Barn door shutters and sliding barn doors are a charming way to incorporate metals and add an industrial or rustic style to your house. Barn doors are constructed from solid wood and have a variety of hardware to choose from such as rollers, tracks, and door handles that are made of different metals.
